  • With three years remaining on his contract, Oregon State has fired Craig Robinson from his job as head coach of the men’s basketball team.

The brother-in-law of President Barack Obama was 94-105 in six seasons in Corvallis, and was the fourth-winningest coach in school history, reports ESPN.

The Beavers, however, failed to go to the NCAA tournament or even an NIT in his tenure.

Robinson will receive a buyout of $4 million — or 10 times Obama’s salary of $400,000.

Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis had issued a letter on March 28 saying “I’m looking forward to watching Coach Robinson continue to build our program. … I ask for your continued support of Beaver basketball.”

The Beavers were 16-16 (8-10 Pac-12) this past season, and the program was set to lose its top five scorers.

The top three — Roberto Nelson, Devon Collier and Angus Brandt — all graduated. Eric Moreland declared early for the NBA draft, and Hallice Cooke decided to transfer. Starting point guard Challe Barton, who hails from Sweden, decided to play overseas instead of returning to the program.

Robinson went to Oregon State from Brown, where he was 30-28 in two seasons.
