During the mid 1980′s a cartoon by the name of Popeye used to be a childhood favorite for many.  The main character, Popeye was relatively skinny and would get picked on from time to time.  But when he would get into a jam and would need some added strength, Popeye would literally pop open a can of spinach and instantly get transformed into a muscle-bound man.  While that might have been an animated adventure, there is some truth to muscle benefits of spinach.  See below:
