HOUSTON (AP)— A Houston woman accused of mailing a letter to the White House that threatened to kill President Barack Obama has now been indicted in the case.
A U.S. Attorney’s statement Wednesday says a federal grand jury in Houston indicted Denise O’Neal. The indictment alleges O’Neal’s letter threatened specifically to travel to Washington, D.C., to kill the president.
The 57-year-old woman, whom prosecutors say uses the alias “Teddy Bear Paradise,” was initially arrested Dec. 26, and a federal magistrate has ordered that she remain in custody without bond.
A message left Wednesday evening with her attorney, federal public defender Marjorie Meyers, wasn’t returned.
If convicted, O’Neal could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and fined up to $250,000.
