The Tyler Perry takeover is in effect, at least on the OWN Network. Tonight at 9 p.m., the second season of Love Thy Neighbor kicks off. Palmer Williams is one of its stars. He plays Floyd Stanley Jackson, the co-owner of the restaurant that Hattie Mae runs. Williams is a veteran of Perry’s stage plays and also appeared on House of Payne, where he played the same character.

“This is a continuation of the zaniness that I’ve been bringing with the different theatrical performances and now I’m bringing it to television once again and to a brand new show on the OWN network.,” Williams told the Tom Joyner Morning Show. You can’t beat that.”

An Alabama native (whose roots are from Alabama counties not far from where Tom’s family hails from) Williams says when you come from a small Southern town, you have to “put yourself in a situation where you can be found.”

He was doing praise dancing at his church and playing the character of Jesus when Perry visited his church. He got an audition the next day and six days later he was on House of Payne.

“I was not twerking for Jesus,” Williams explains. “I was playing Jesus. There is a difference. As long as you are not grabbing the back of the pew, people don’t know where you come from. So I was definitely trying to keep it holy.”

His experience could be helpful to those people on the Fantastic Voyage who will have the chance to audition for Perry’s casting executives while aboard. This could turn out to be the break of a lifetime for someone especially if they follow Robinson’s advice.

“Be you. Keep it straight to what you do. Be the best you you can be. Also make sure you prepare with your head shots and your resumes and everything. If you don’t invest in you, how are you going to have someone else to believe in you? So do the right thing and take professional shots.”
