It looks like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey are spending their first vacation of 2014 together.

This weekend, the White House announced that Mrs. Obama was staying behind in Hawaii, after a 15-day family vacation in Honolulu, “to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday party.” Well, according to sources, those “friends” may include Oprah, Gayle King, White House advisor Valerie Jarrett and Sharon Malone, the wife of Attorney General Eric Holder.

TMZ reports the First Lady flew to Maui and was transported directly to Oprah’s 11-room, 17-acre estate in Kula. And according to a report by The Maui News, local resident Paul Meyer said his routine bike ride by Oprah’s estate was cut short by “Secret Service agents.”

“Two young guys were there and Maui police officers, and they said the road is going to be closed for the next week,” he said. “I asked, ‘Is Michelle Obama in town?’ and the policeman just nodded.”

President Obama planned the girls’ getaway as an early birthday present for his wife, who celebrates another year of life on January 17.

In a recent blog post for the HuffPost Hawaii, Oprah refereed to her Maui home as a special “sacred space.”

“Every evening we sit on the front porch and watch the greatest light show on earth: the sun dipping below the horizon. Neighbors drop by. We sip drinks inspired by whatever is fresh and delicious — mango, guava, pineapple, cucumber, basil. We chat, laugh and rate the sunsets according to their magnificence,” she wrote. “When there’s a full moon, we hike up the mountain and sometimes ride horses to the top to watch the moon rise over the ridge. I love being in my garden, cultivating the most delicious organic fruits and vegetables. Radishes as big as your head. The land gives and gives. It restores my soul.”
