Could Fiscal Conservatives Help Fight Workplace Discrimination?

  • Sometimes workplace discrimination can cost taxpayers. Case in point: the recent $68,000 award from a discrimination claim by a black social worker against the Hampton, Va. Veterans Administration. EEOC documents indicate the VA declined to hire her for a position because of her blond dreadlocks, even though she was the most qualified candidate. The judge agreed.

Given the cost, why don’t more fiscal conservatives support the fight against workplace discrimination? Roland Martin posed that question on NewsOne Now.

“If they were intellectually honest, they would also say we’re all for liberty, all for free expression, which they talk about all the time,” replied Washington Post reporter Michael A. Fletcher. “[Black people are] Americans….This is the beauty of America that people can express themselves and be themselves in this society.”

    What are your thoughts?
