Oprah Winfrey has devoted her entire life to becoming, well, Oprah, and she has no regrets about skipping marriage and children.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 59-year-old media mogul said, “If I had kids, my kids would hate me.”

“They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them,” she told the magazine.

“Gayle [now a mother of two] was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade home ec class, was writing down her name and the names of her children,” she shared of her best friend. “While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King.”

When Oprah was 14, she gave birth a son who only lived for a few weeks. During a 2011 interview on “Piers Morgan Tonight,” the talk show queen said the baby’s death as her “second chance” at life.

Today, the OWN founder and CEO refers to the students at her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy in South Africa as her kids.

“Some people ask me why I never had children,” she told parents at the school’s opening in 2007. “Maybe this is the reason. So I can help bring up other peoples’ children, your children. I want you to trust me to bring up your children and I promise I’ll never let you down.”
