A reviewer for at least one industry web site thinks that a “Saturday Night Live” skit based on “12 Years a Slave,” and featuring a cameo from a twerking Miley Cyrus, was “off the mark.”

In the film, Solomon Northrop (Chewitel Ejiofor) was a free black man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C. in 1841 and sold into slavery. He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release.

The “SNL” sketch, titled “12 Days Not a Slave,” takes place 12 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Northrup-inspired Cecil (Jay Pharoah) can’t understand why white people are still treating him like a slave.

The Cyrus cameo comes after Northrup is warned by Ed Norton’s sympathetic character not to let white people see him dance, because, “they will want to dance like you…and it will be a catastrophe.”

Cut to three white women doing the worm…and Miley, twerking.

What do you think about the skit?
