“American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard has had a rough few years since winning Season 2 in 2003. He married and divorced, his career stalled and his weight fluctuated. This year, he returns to reality TV, joining the cast of NBC’s hit weight loss competition show “The Biggest Loser.” Instead of the 205 area code he once wore as part of a clothing line that paid tribute to his Birmingham, Alabama roots, he wore a shirt with the number ‘467,’ his weight when he began the show. At 35, he was the heaviest contestant this season.

Studdard who had sleep apnea and was borderline diabetic when he started the show, is now working out two hours a day to maintain his weight loss. Check out his interview with the Tom Joyner Morning Show above.

“The Biggest Loser” premieres Tuesday, October 15 at 8 p.m.
