Lashinda Demus, who won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic games, says that her husband, Jamel Mayrant , strangled her and also threatened to kill her. The athlete so feared for her life that she reportedly took out a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband who is now required to stay at least 100 yards away from not only her but their twin boys and her parents, according to TMZ.

Mayrant was reportedly hauled off to jail two weeks ago for domestic violence.  Demus alleges the beating she took from Mayrant left her bruised from head to toe and gave her a lump on her head.

The restraining order that Demus was able to secure also protects not only their 6-year-old children but her parents as well, whom she claims, Mayrant threatened.

The 30-year-old American record-holder in the 400m hurdles is also accusing Mayrant of tarnishing her career. According to TMZ, a court document that was filed by Demus stated,  ”I’m a professional athlete … so I need no derogatory e-mails, pictures, texts, phone calls released about me on the web or to other people.”

Demus, plans to participate in the upcoming Rio Olympics in 2016, and according to her, it will be her last competition.
