The last day of the Electric Zoo Festival  was canceled due to two people dying from an MDMA, or Molly, overdoses. Four other concert goers remain in the hospitals in nearby areas from Randall Island, where the festival was held.

A statement was released on the official NYC website, regarding the festival and incidents. “Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly),” they explained.  ”The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event.”

According to the New York Times, the two concert goers who died were Jeffrey Russ, 23, of Rochester, N.Y., and Olivia Rotondo, 20, of Providence, R.I.

This was the fifth year the festival was held over Labor Day weekend. Last year it drew over 100,000 attendees.
