Dear Tom:
I am currently an unregistered sleep technologist working at a sleep clinic from 8pm to 6am. Tom, a sleep technologist has an important role to play as part of a team under the supervision of a physician to assist in the education, evaluation, treatment and follow-up of sleep disorders.
Unfortunately, my hours at work have been reduced to half of what they were, although I have nine years of experience. I am told by my supervisor that a large part of the reason is the fact that I am not board certified in sleep medicine. As a single mother raising a daughter on my own, not having a full paycheck since April has been very stressful.
Tom, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine developed the accredited sleep technologist education program (a-step). it has always been my dream to become board certified in my field, so that I can work better hours, grow professionally and have financial stability. it is my Christmas wish to ask for your help to cover the cost of the on-line instruction course on sleep medicine, the required modules to become certified and the exam. it would also be unbelievably helpful if i can have a laptop since i don’t have one to accomplish my goal.
Thank You, Brigette Smallwood
