The 1963 class of Western-Olin Hugh School in Birmingham, Alabama had their prom cancelled due to their involvement in civil right protests.

Well, over 50 years later the class was able to finally have their prom at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Al.

Hundreds of seniors from the 1963 class showed up in their best tuxedos and prom gowns to enjoy the festivities they were unable to enjoy back in the day.

Brenda Phillips Hong, a student in the 1963 class told All Alabama, “the prom was taken away from us because of the actions that we took. When we chose to march, those rights were taken from us.”
