  • ESPN analyst Chris Broussard is facing some heat after comments he made about Jason Collins‘ homosexuality on-air during an ESPN telecast.

In an episode of Outside the Lines, Broussard expressed his beliefs on homosexuality.

Broussard said, “If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that that’s a sin,” Adding, “If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ.”

“As a Christian, I don’t agree with homosexuality. I think it’s a sin,” said the popular sports analyst. “There are a lot of Christians in the NBA, and just because they don’t agree with that lifestyle, they don’t want to be called bigoted and intolerant.”

Quickly, media outlets, blogs and social media sites attacked Broussard for his comments.

After hearing all of the backlash, Broussard, used Twitter to explain his comments:

“Today on OTL, as part of a larger, wide-ranging discussion on today’s news, I offered my personal opinion as it relates to Christianity, a point of view that I have expressed publicly before. I realize that some people disagree with my opinion and I accept and respect that. As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA. I believe Jason Collins displayed bravery with his announcement today and I have no objection to him or anyone else playing in the NBA.”

ESPN also released a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, apologizing for Broussard’s comments, saying: “We regret that a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction from today’s news.  ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins’ announcement.”

On Monday, Collins became the first openly male gay athlete in an American team sport.

    1. Yo jus stop sucking dick for all the gays out there…to much pussy n dis world for a man playin wit another man …chris rite jason is a big gay ass sinner

    2. What is the world coming to? As merzydoats said, Christians are chastised for their views when others have freedom of speech? I just read where the FDA has now approved contraception for girls as young as 15 over the counter? Until this nation gets back to God, His judgment will be upon this country.

    3. What has become of this world when having an opinion, based on your religious beliefs or scientific fact, is a reason to condemn you because the media has fallen in love with a type of sexual behavior? A sad, sad thing is happening to us as a nation.

    4. If he is a Christian he should know the he’s a sinner too like the rest of us. We all fall short. Chris need to turn his finger towards himself and worry about his own salvation.

    5. You fake Christians are really something. You’ll bash this man for being homosexual, but will gladly plan a shower for a baby born out of wedlock. Don’t forget your adulterers, debauchery, liars, gluttony, and especially those of you who blatantly say the Lord’s name in vain? OMG? Is this what Jesus, the SON of God who died for our sins, not a PROPHET would do? Stop bashing, and spewing your hatred. How about we pray for EVERYONE, not just your pics and chooses. Be not deceived, God is not MOCKED!!

    6. Homosexuality is like telling God he made a mistake and that he didn’t know what he was doing when he created man and woman. As christians, are we supposed to turn our back on god’s design and tell God he got it all wrong. Tell god that the mainstream media know better than he does? As christians, we are to set the example for how to follow christ’s example… it is not up to us to convince others to believe or change their life-style. We are to provide information, pray for them, and put it in God’s hands. We are to set ourselves apart from the world, we are supposed to be the light when it all comes crashing down. You can’t go against what God has designed, it’s not sustainable… the bottom will fall out, and when it does, christians need to be there to help pick up the pieces.

    7. Gays have a lot more health problems than straights, both mental and physical. Why is our president supportinig and promoting the gay life-style and not talking about the health risks that are associated with homosexuality. It’s the same with abortion… we are now hearing about what exactly happens with late term abortions and how the baby’s spinal cord is cut. What do people tell themselves that makes this acceptable?

    8. Also, Christians aren’t the only religion that disagrees with the homosexual lifestyle. Muslims do as well, but no one will take them to task because they know Muslims do not play. Below is what I found concerning their beliefs. I just want the media to stop acting like homosexuals are in the majority and to stop using it’s influence to persuade the people like sheep headed to slaughter.

Islam is clear in its prohibition of homosexual acts. Islamic scholars cite these reasons for condemning homosexuality, based on teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah:
It clashes with the “natural” order in which God created human beings
It brings destruction of the family and the institutions of marriage
It leads people to ignore God’s guidance in other areas of life.

The Qur’an tells the story of the people of Lut (Lot), which is similar to the story as shared in the Old Testament of the Bible. We learn of an entire nation which was destroyed by God due to their obscene behavior, which included rampant homosexuality.
As a prophet of God, Lut preached to his people. We also sent Lut. He said to his people: ‘Will you commit lewdness such as no people in creation ever committed before you? For you come in lust to men in preference to women. No, you are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds’ (Qur’an 7:80-81). In another verse, Lut advised them: ‘Of all the creatures in the world, will you approach males, and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? No, you are a people transgressing (all limits)!’ (Qur’an 26:165-166). The people rejected Lut and threw him out of the city. In response, God destroyed them as punishment for their transgressions and disobedience.

Muslim scholars cite these verses to support a prohibition against homosexual behavior.

    9. He us entilted to his opinion just like everyone else who is commenting on this.I too am a christian and the Bible teaches us that this is a sin However you are taught to hate the sin and not the sinner so Good luck to him because I don’t have to answer to God for what others do I have my own sins OK . I don’t have a Heaven or hell to put anybody in!
