Rap godfather Snoop Dogg has been one of hip-hop’s biggest supporters when it comes to marriage equality in the country. However, just because he believes all Americans should have the right to marry whomever they choose, he doesn’t think homosexuality will ever be accepted in the world of hip-hop despite Frank Ocean coming out as bisexual.

During an interview with U.K.’s “The Guardian,” Snoop Dogg, now snoop Lion, was asked whether Frank Ocean admitting his sexual preference leaned towards men would help make it easier for other hip-hop artists to come out of the closet. Snoop responded, “Frank’s a singer. It’s acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don’t know if it ever will be because rap is so masculine. It’s like a football team. You can’t be in a locker room full of motherf**king tough-a** dudes, then all of a sudden say, ‘Hey, man, I like you.’ You know, that’s going to be tough.”

Snoop’s comments definitely illustrate the world of hip-hop. While plenty of rappers have come out in support of gay marriage, those very same rappers have put anti-homosexual subject matter into their rhymes. While those rappers claim to be in support of gay marriage because it’s the popular cause to take up at the moment, Snoop Dogg really does believe in marriage equality. “Satisfy yourself accordingly. I have no issues with nobody. I live for me and I live my life doing what I do, so you should have the right to do whatever you want to do.”

Is Snoop correct about hip-hop embracing homosexuality? Or is he just being shortsighted? Speak your thoughts.

homosexuality is a moral sin according to christian religion. i dont believe in same sex marriage. but every one has a right to choose there own lifestyle. i dont condem any one. its not up to me to be the judge of any one. this is my personal opinion.

  3. you can say what you want and feel like you want but the one who created us will have the last say. I hope that everyone will be ready on that great day of the real righteous judge.

The rap music industry as well as pro and college sports should stop denying the existence of Gay people in the ranks of these very profitable industries. If the military can do it, so can jocks and rappers. African Ameican Gays contribute greatly to all of these institutions as well as Black culture in general each day. This is especially true in the arts and sports. The more people deny the existence of this reality the harder it will be for people to really stop being stuck on stupid and respect and appreciate the role and presence of Gay people in our lives.

  5. The alternative life-style, marriage equality and whatever else america has chosen to call it probably won’t be tolerated in hip-hop. Hip-Hop has this macho image, entertaining the idea of men getting their swerve on with other men won’t do the image any good. Some countries around the world see what america is doing and may have come to the conclusion that the so-called good life in this country has caused its citizens to throw their values under the bus.

Snoop spoke what most americans feel about homosexuality, but because america has become political correct in all things; people are afraid to speak up!! 98% of americans says, yes you can marry whom you want but don’t like it and do not accept it! It’s accepted only on the surface…just like Black folks!
