Some current and former Chicago gang members are choosing a basketball as their weapon of choice thanks to a local minister.
The Maroon team and the Green team faced off for a game of one on one at the auditorium of St. Sabina Church. The Maroon team is comprised of members of the Killa Ward gang which is a sector of the Gangster Disciples. The Green Team includes members of the Black Disciples.
Reverend Michael Pfleger is responsible for bringing these street gangsters together, who range in age from teens to their 30s.
‘I want lives changed’ and ‘basketball is the tool,’ Pfleger commented.
Although many of the men are still subscribing to a gangster lifestyle, Pfleger continues to offer them help and resources such as G.E.D. help, internships, job, counseling and recreation.
