  • WASHINGTON (AP) — The largest franchisee of Burger King restaurants is paying $2.5 million to settle federal claims of sexual harassment.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says the agreement with Carrols Corp. covers 89 female employees around the country. The settlement ends a 14-year lawsuit that was one of the most extensive in the commission’s history.

The EEOC alleged that Carrols employees subjected women in dozens of restaurants to harassment that included obscene comments, unwanted touching, exposure of genitalia, strip searches and rape.

The company did not admit any wrongdoing and said in a statement that it settled the case to avoid litigation costs. The settlement requires the company to improve its ability to respond to harassment charges.

Syracuse, N.Y.-based Carrols owns and operates more than 570 Burger King restaurants in 13 states.

    1. No better for them…its hard enough working on these ‘fast food’ jobs than to have to be subjected to slave plantation and sexual harrassment working conditions! I had to stop my teen age daughter from working at one because she was being sexual harrassed by a woman manager and when I did get her to speak up for herself and tell the area manager and human resources those fools told her to talk to the woman that was harrassing her! what the hell? yes I did take her to the EEOC with some other of her little friends to file complaints…and I hope the end results are as possitive as this one! it makes no darn sense as frustrated and stressed as people are in today s work force– some are willing to do their jobs and want to be left the hell alone—if more managers and supervisors were to be getting their azz kicked because of unwanted advances and inhumane treatment then these companies will stop allowing them to get away with this mess…they tell you in orientation that they have a zero tolerance for sexual harrassment but it depends on who is doing the harrassing!
