We’re familiar with the world’s hottest New Year’s Eve spots. There’s Times Square, probably the most famous, and places like Rio de Janeiro that already have a great New Year’s Eve tradition. But Columbia, S.C. mayor Steve Benjamin has another idea. Why not take a Southern city, already a popular travel region for African-Americans, and make it into another storied New Year hotspot?

Last year was the first for the Famously Hot New Year (FHNY) celebration and it kicked off successfully. Over 20,000 people from 23 states attended the New Year’s Eve festivities that included food, festivities and fun. This year, expect the event to be even bigger. The Wallflowers, BizMarkie, Atlantic Starr, The Reggie Sullivan Band and Terence Young will all perform.  All of this takes place on Columbia’s recently refurbished Main Street corridor, which has had million dollars of improvements made in the last decade.

“Famously Hot New Year is a first-class event in our world-class city. We cannot wait to host visitors looking for a memorable way to ring in 2013 and to welcome them with our southern hospitality,” says Mayor Benjamin.  “Plus, we usually boast mild weather, even on the last day of December. We hope people will leave their parkas behind and instead will choose to be ‘Famously Hot’ with us in Columbia this New Year’s Eve.”

Attendees can choose several tiers of price plans depending on the entertainment options they choose. Of course, they can come enjoy the traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks and countdown to the New Year absolutely free. For more information on events and ticketing, go to www. Famouslyhotnewyear.com.
