In her memoir, “The Next Big Story,” CNN personality Soledad O’Brien said she was hurt when Jesse Jackson made a comment about her perceived blackness. The daughter of a Black Cuban and an Australian, O’Brien’s light appearance has caused people to question her blackness. That is just part of the latest CNN “Black In America” series which explores the relationship Black people have to complexion. From “high-yella” to “bone black” CNN explores just what role color plays in perceptions of race.
