Dear Tom,
My mother has been a true inspiration to not only to my little sister and me…BUT ALSO to 1500 other kids in her life. She has been a school administrator at a charter school here in Detroit. She has been there for 7 years and the kids just love her.
As a single parent, she always wanted her us to do well in and out of school. She always pushed me to pursue a higher education while she took classes after work… at one point, we were both taking classes at the same school at the same time!
After 10 years in the making, my mom got her degree last may and she keeps staying busy looking out for kids. In her spare time, she likes to tutor students and teaches dancing after school. She teaches ballet, modern dance & jazz but specializes in ballroom dance.
Every year, she showcases her students in the high school auditorium with a show called “Dancing Like The Stars”. Last year, my mom started a Black History Month celebration at her school and next February, she will be directing and choreographing a tribute to Motown for BHM.
She recently remarried and often feels guilty for wanting some "me" time. She really wants to go somewhere nice and warm during the winter break.
She is mother every day, but if she could be your Thursday Morning Mom, I know she would be forever grateful.
