President Barack Obama’s debate comments have rattled the bayonet industry.

In the final debate last night, President Obama shot down Mitt Romney’s claims that the military’s artillery needed a facelift.

"You mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed," President Obama retorted.

Bayonet manufacturers believe that bayonets are still viable weapons today.

Dan Riker, a spokesperson for Bayonets, Inc. said that he found the president’s comments “ignorant—because our soldiers still use bayonets."

The official website of the U.S. Marines reports that cadets are still required to complete a bayonet training program.

“The weapon becomes just as effective [as a rifle] in close combat situations," the website reads.

“[Bayonets] are still distributed to the military all the time — he should get educated on it,” Riker added.

He also said that he did not vote for President Obama during the last election and he will not do so this year.
