Obama and Romney Are Neck and Neck in New Poll

  • A new national poll suggests that President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are tied.

    The new Gallup poll showed that the president only holds a slight lead over his Republican opponent with 49 percent to 46 percent among registered voters.

    The seven-day tracking poll surveyed over 1,000 registered voters by phone and contained a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.  It also broke the data comparatively between the number of Obama supporters before and after last Wednesday’s debate.

    President Obama held a five-point lead over Romney 50 percent to 45 percent from September 30 –October 2. However, three days after the debate the two were tied at 47 percent from October 4-6. 

    The Gallup poll also revealed that 72 percent of voters who watched the debate believed that Romney did a better job while only five percent held the same belief about the president.

    Republicans who participated in the Gallup poll said that Romney tremendously outperformed the president with seven out of ten independents agreeing.
