  1. Things are really bad and out of hand at WSSU and it’s like no one cares. I have reported them so many times, it’s sad they are giving HBCU’s a bad name. The culture there is really bad not sure when someone will intervene but it’s unbelievable and unbearable on many days. This issue there has nothing to do with race; it’s more about leadership not having any regard for the law and many in leadership moral less. These people are bullies and I’ve had enough and decided to fight back. Additionally, there is no accountability and they are running off the principle of it’s not what you know it’s who you know. I have been violated just like Shira and I too feel damaged by the actions of WSSU employees.

I am fighting the same fight that Shira is fighting; Dr. Joyce said “If you are treated differently and adversely because you are black or white, you are being discriminated on the basis of your race and that is unlawful,” it’s deeper than race at WSSU my cases are related to sex discrimination and retaliation. I say, if you are treated differently and adversely because of your race, sex, or any “covered class”, you are being discriminated against and that is unlawful,” a concept WSSU has failed to adopt. It’s sad because I personally feel that this should be a matter of public concern because WSSU is a public University. My concern is that more lawsuits will come and as a tax payer I don’t want the current leadership at WSSU any more; they are thugs and bullies and must be stopped. I’m not sure why someone from the State department won’t intervene, I understand WSSU is an HBCU but does that mean we have the flexibility to waste there? It’s sad I don’t believe hard working, qualified employees should be discriminated against for any reason! To add insult to injury, WSSU defense strategy is to deny everything, and seek dismissals..what a mess! Good luck with that. Diversity at WSSU for all means do as you are told or else….I’m sorry but it really reminds me of an plantation. I have to go in everyday and tell myself no weapon formed against me shall prosper and the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want because while I love what I do and I do my job well I too am a victim of discrimination at WSSU which also led to harassment and retaliation as a means to get me to quit my job! So much for RAM pride….just another example of saying one thing and doing another!

  4. This is the sad story of Winston Salem Sate University. We should not paint all HBCU’s with the same stroke but having spent time at this institution for over 15 years, it makes my blood boil. Since Donald Reaves came in as Chancellor in 2007, he has engaged in behavior unbecoming of a professional. He has used the N word and refers to alumni as Spooks. This has been documented. He allowed his CFO to say ,in public in the presence of white workers and I quote: “I would like to enslave white people for a hundred years.” He refered to employees who he deemed low performers as”niggers”’. This was reported to HR and to the University of North Carolina System Office and nothing was done! Under the leadership of Erskine Bowles, the university declined in receiving public funds because Donald’s catankerous personality and fowl language turned off many donors. He engaged in a protracted war with alumni, culminating in manipualting the Board of Trustees to name a building after him. The meeting violated North Carolina Public Record Meeting Laws beause it was done under a closed session. A Trustee daughter and the Provost sister, Debbie King, were hired after reducing and laying off employees. The sad thing is that these individuals who were hired ,using a patronage system, lacked the skills to perform the basic functions of their jobs, nepotism is rampant. The head of HR was a personal friend of the Chancellor who lacked the credentials to be an HR person. Mr. Foster’s daughters are the godchildren of Deborah Reaves, the Chancellor’s spouse. A personal friend of the Chancellor, wss being paid as a consultant, Walter Holmes, a person who lacks the professional credentials to be a “head hunter”. This man worked with Donald in the Massachussetts Welfare Office. North Carolina tax payers are footing the bill to pay individuals with questionable credentials.Given this summary and limited scenario, you begin to see a picture of blatant disregard for the rules and norms that ought to guide a university.
    This past summer, Donald Reaves left the campus for a three month vacation! How is it possible for a Chancellor to take so much time during the crucial period for student recruitment. Consequently, WSSU has failed to meet enrollment goals. This year over 300 freshment refused to come to WSSU because there is no sufficient scholarship money, donors have stopped giving. Excellent students do not come to WSSU because they get better offers from A&T and UNCG. WSSU has to accept lower performing students. The four year graduation rate is 18%. It has not changed a bit during the last 5 years since Reaves arrived at WSSU. So what does he do? He enjoys football games and his is distracted (ADDS) from other responsibilities because he wants to win a tournament. This is his only strategy for making students
    successful!
    The question is how much longer can Tom Ross, the Presidentof the UNC System, continue t o support Donal Reaves given this record? Where is the Board of Governors in this matter? Donald Reaves cannot raise money because he is incapable of “friend raising.” WSSU no longer has friends because he has alienated the community with his nepotism, fowl language, unprofessional behavior and juvenile antics.
    Last week during a football game he had an altercation with an alumnus during the game, something he has done three times in the past. He tried to do the same with two other alumni, Mrs. Roseboro and Harvey. They have documented his behavior, one of them took it to court and the judge told Reaves not to use his court fr his antics. Unfortunately, the General Administartion Office (GA) did absolutely nothing! It is understandable, the UNC System is now distracted with the recent scandals at the Universityy of Carolina, Chapel Hill. There is simply a lack of moral leadership from top to bottom in the UNC System!

  5. Of course, it couldn’t be that attitude whites get when they believe themselves so liberal for living among us. That feeling of entitlement is always there. Whether they speak to you (blacks) or don’t speak to you. I will bet she was not easy to deal with. White women in particular don’t even know how bad and entitled they are. Watch a few, they don’t even notice when they are inappropriate. It could be something as simple as waiting on them to get out of a parking space or someone in front of them in line. That’s the way it is. That’s how white men appeased them when the white man was spending more time in the black woman’s dwelling. He let them get away with anything to keep them quiet so that no matter what, the “illusion” of white is right remains on top.

  7. I doubt it’s racism. It maybe bias of some sort at worst. Racism is when your entire race is scrutinized solely because of your race. There are no grounds for this scrutiny other than the color of your skin. Like our President, Barak Obama is a Harvard Law Professor and past President of the Harvard Law Review I think it’s called. His race is not scrutinized because its members are lazy, crimminal, immoral or a menace to society collectively. No, his race is hated because of their color. All kinds of discriminatory systems are put in place to control them and prevent their progress.
