Despite some early stumbles, the OWN Network has slowly been developing some franchise shows with “Oprah’s Next Chapter” “Lifeclass” and Iyanla Vanzant’s upcoming “Iyanla: Fix My Life”, an all but guaranteed hit. But one of the network’s early breakout shows was the reality series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” starring St. Louis restaurant owner Robbie Montgomery. She owns the “Sweetie Pie’s” soul food restaurant of the title. The 70-something  former Ikette is an unlikely reality star, but she’s a star nonetheless. The trials and tribulations of her various family members including her only child Tim, his wife Janae, her nephew Charles and the varying personalities that make up the show has proven to be a winning formula for OWN.

The third season of “Welcome To Sweetie Pies” airs on Saturday, September 15 at 9 p.m. This season finds Miss Robbie on the verge of making a longtime dream happen, the opening of her new location “Sweetie Pie’s The Upper Crust.” It’s a particularly poignant moment for Miss Robbie as it opens in a neighborhood of St. Louis that was once segregated. Unfortunately, both Tim and Charles prove to be distractions as Charles wants to bartend at the new place and Tim says he’s too busy at the other location to help his mother organize a launch party. With three restaurants now up and running in the St. Louis area, expect more tough love and tough talk from Miss Robbie this third season, combined with an insane work ethic for someone her age – or any age.

“We are a family that works in our business,” she told Popculturepassionistas.com last year. “I’ve never seen anybody work in these other reality shows. We actually work. We have our fights, but it’s not physical, it’s verbal. And I’m the winner. It’s my way or the highway, so there’s no fighting.”

With the Upper Crust finally ready to open, Robbie plans a soft opening party – a party Tim refuses to help his mom arrange, claiming he’s too busy with the Mangrove location. Meanwhile, Charles jockeys for a bartending position at the new restaurant.
