NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — A student who was in an Illinois classroom where shots were fired says his teacher seized the opportunity to tackle the shooter while he set his gun down.

No one was injured in the Friday morning incident at Normal Community High School in Normal. Police say a 14-year-old student is in custody.

Student Sean Kennedy told WGLT radio in Normal that the gunman pulled a handgun and hatchet from a backpack and told students in the room that no one wanted to listen to him talk about unspecified problems.

Kennedy says the gun was fired after some students snuck out.

He says the gunman then set the gun down and the teacher tackled him. Another shot was discharged during the scuffle.

Police don't know the gunman's motives.
