Now that she’s achieved the fame and money that she’s always wanted, former stripper Nene Leakes is determined to make the best of it. Leakes has appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice,” has a shoe line called Nethia on the website ShoeDazzle, has a recurring role as Coach Roz Washington on “Glee” and is now co-starring in the new Ryan Murphy comedy “The New Normal,” on NBC.
This Saturday, September 8, Leakes is also hosting “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” marathon starting at 7 p.m. During the marathon, she’ll give viewers a preview of “The New Normal.” She doesn’t play herself on the show, but rather a version of herself that is an assistant to Bryan Buckley, one of the gay adoptive fathers “The New Normal” is based around. The show’s premise is what happens when a gay couple decides to hire a surrogate to carry their child, to the horror of some of the people around them including Ellen Barkin, who plays Jane, the surrogate’s grandmother.
Murphy, also the creator of the hit musical show “Glee,” has already seen his new show generate controversy when the conservative group One Million Moms protested the show, causing some affiliates to drop it.
“The New Normal” premieres Tuesday September 11 at 9:30 p.m. Watch an extended preview below.
