If you haven’t yet checked out “Verses and Flow” on TV One, you’re missing out. The show, which debuted it’s second season last month, combines music and poetry for a unique mix that’s hard to find elsewhere on television. Actor Omari Hardwick of “For Colored Girls” and “I Will Follow” fame, who himself is a spoken word artist, is the host. Recent guests have included singers Macy Gray, Eric Benet and poets Super B, Sonya Renee and Edwin Bondy.

Not since the days of HBO’s ground breaking "Def Poetry Jam" has spoken word gotten so much TV time, but it just goes to show that the medium is alive and well. Shows featuring Elle Varner and Chrisette Michele are coming up with poets Marcus Omari and Queen Sheba performing, among others. Next Monday, Grammy nominee Tank leads off the musical portion of the show joined by poets Clint Smith, Treesje and Kataalyst Alcindor.

Tank’s latest CD “Now or Never” featuring the singles “Next Breath” and “Compliments” is in stores now. “Verses and Flow” airs at 8 and 11 p.m. EST on TV One. Watch the first episodes of the season here.
