A top Ohio basketball recruit collapsed in court after receiving a three-year prison sentence.

Garfield Heights High School senior Tony Farmer was ordered to serve three years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping, felonious assault, and other crimes against his ex-girlfriend last April. Farmer attacked her after she refused to reconcile their relationship.

As Judge Pamela Barker read the verdict, the 6-foot-7 recruit collapsed into the arms of a sheriff’s deputy and fell to the ground sobbing.

Farmer was hoping to receive probation after teachers, coaches, family and friends offered testimony on his behalf. Even the victim, Andrea Lane pleaded with the judge to not put him in prison.

“I know he was a good person," Lane told local reporters. "I hope he still is."

Their altercation was caught on tape in the lobby of her apartment complex.

Farmer was a top 100 basketball prospect for schools such as Xavier, Ohio State, Dayton and Michigan State.

Judge Barker can reduce Farmer’s sentence when she reviews it in 180 days.
