At a memorial service for the star of the sitcom "The Jeffersons," a sign on the front door of the Deliverance Evangelistic Church in North Philadelphia read: "Today's Memorial Service for Sherman Hemsley has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Hemsley  passed away in July in El Paso, Texas. Reports say the actor passed away from lung cancer. Hemsley was not a known smoker.

There is no immediate word as to why the service was cancelled or if the Philadelphia service will be rescheduled. Hemsley was a native Philadelphian.
