Some people may know Terry Crews best as the reality TV star of BET’s “The Family Crews” but he’s also a movie actor. A former NFL player, Crews has appeared in 32 movies since 2000. Now he’s heading back to the big screen in “Expendables 2,” the second of what appears to be a movie franchise in the making about a group of mercenaries who are called upon to solve problems that require their specific destructive skills. Crews is part of the action-star heavy cast that also includes such heavyweights as Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and more.

The Flint, Michigan native signed on for the first “Expendables” but despite the blockbuster cast, it wasn’t guaranteed that it would hit. It didn’t with critics, but audiences loved it and made the first film a global hit that grossed over $250 million dollars worldwide. So of course, that meant an “Expendables 2.” This time Jean Claude Van Damme and Liam Hemsworth of “The Hunger Games” join the cast, with Van Damme in the role as villain. And yes, there is already talk of an “Expendables 3” with Steven Segal and Nicholas Cage already attached. Currently incarcerated Wesley Snipes who’s due for release in 2013 might also joining the cast of “Expendables 3.”  Think of the movies as an all-star reunion of action heroes past and present. Crews, among the new guys, is just happy to be on board.

“When you look at the statistics, and where I should have ended up, its jail,” Crews told Doslives.com. “A lot of my friends are in prison, have passed away or are just stuck. It never gets past me how fortunate I am. It also reminds me that you have to show people that you belong here. That is one thing I learned from Sly, Arnold, Bruce Lee and Chuck. They are really all about the work. You aren’t entitled to any career and you aren’t entitled to be a star. You really have to give everything and you still aren’t guaranteed a hit, but that’s what makes it so much more special when it hits. And ‘The Expendables’ seems to have hit really really big.”

"The Expendables 2" comes to theaters Friday, August 17. Watch movie trailer below.
