It was just sixteen years ago when Dominique Dawes was in the same "leotard" as Gabby Douglas. A young, African- American teen, going for the gold in the Olympics in a sport where black women were not prevalent.

After yesterday's win in the Olympic All-Around, Douglas became the first black Olympic gymnast to win All-Around Gold. And just the second black gymnast to win gold ever, after legendary Dominique Dawes.

After Douglas's historic win, Dawes in tears, exclaimed, "I am so thrilled to change my website and take down the fact that I was the only African American with a gold medal."

Dawes understands the impact her win had on youth and sees Douglas's win equally important, saying Douglas is going to help "a whole other generation of young girls and boys, African-Americans, hispanics, and other minorites to see the sport of gymnastics as an opportunity for them to excel."

Watch the video below to hear more of Dawes' reaction; including, her advice to Douglas and tips for youth wanting to succeed in the sport of gymnastics.
