U.S. Olympian Destinee Hooker is not letting the media affect her name or her game.

Hooker, who is a member of the U.S. indoor volleyball team, has been criticized for her last name. She said being ridiculed about her name is nothing new.

"I have been dealing with it since I was a child. People can be childish," said Hooker.

Although members of the media have been scrutinizing the 24-year-old about her moniker, she loves it.

"When it comes to my name, I honestly find nothing wrong with it. I love my name," she emphasized.

Hooker said she almost died at birth and was intentionally given her first name by her father.

"Since I was a blessing, [my father] spelled it uniquely. So I am thankful to be here and glad my Dad gave me the name," she explained.

Hooker said she was flattered by the attention being paid to her name. The U.S. indoor volleyball team is currently undefeated.
