When she returned home, Reed said her hair was so tangled that she had to cut nine inches of her hair off.
Reed filed a complaint against the flight crew including photos showing evidence of the hair damage.
United Airlines offered her 40,000 miles as well as a $100 American Express gift card. But, she refused to accept their offer.
“For what they offered me, they’re not even giving me a round trip ticket, basically their customer service sucks,” said Reed.
United Airlines did issue an apology for the incident.
“We’re sorry about what happened, we reached out and spoke directly to Miss Reed. We appreciate her business and we’d like to welcome her back,” said United Airlines spokesman Charlie Hobart.
