British songstress Adele, who rocketed to stardom in 2011 on the wings of her multiple Grammy-winning album “21,” announced on her website today that she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki.
“I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together,” she wrote. “I wanted you to hear the news direct from me. Obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time.”
Adele, 24, told Vogue magazine in February the she was taking a much-needed break after touring for much of the previous year — a tour that ended abruptly after she was sidelined with vocal issues that required surgery.
“I am … off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy,” she said.
The singer quickly backpedaled on that threat, though, writing on her blog soon after that her time frame had already changed. “I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!”
Adele didn’t announce a due date for the little one.
