Houston Pastor Charles Gilford, 58 and his wife Adriane, 53, were arrested and charged with bilking their former congregation out of $430,000 in church funds and using them for gambling trips to Louisiana, according to KHOU News.

The couple stands accused of aggregate theft and misapplication of fiduciary property. They allegedly used the monies donated by their flock to gamble at the Coushatta Casino near Lake Charles between 2004 and 2007, when they served as pastor and first lady of the Bethel Institutional Missionary Baptist Church.

    Checks and Balances.
Also, we must remember 2 Corinthians 9:7 (AMP) | In Context | Whole Chapter
7 Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].

Here we go again—-why in the hell would the ZOMBIES (members) of the church allow the pastor and his wife to have that much access to their money? As long as there are ZOMBIES in these churches allowing these man/women of ‘god’ (not the God I serve) to be their dictators and pimps you will always have stories like these because of their love for the money not the care for their souls and not an ounce of compassion for the people! Glad they at least pressed charges! Because this is a prime example of the POOR REPRESENTATIVES OF GOD in our society that are conning and fooling the hell out of people in the name of God!

I’m confused, are you saying people should not pay tithes and offering? Or are you saying there should be a some type of board in the church that offers checks and balances concerning money and how it is allocated?

Make the churches “bills” public record for all the congregation to see. Let them donate to the point that the bills are paid. That is tithes/offering. If you believe that folks were passing around money for “whatever” reasons in biblical times you are a fool.
