SAN JUAN, Texas (AP) — A police chief says a campaign worker was struck in the leg in a drive-by shooting about 100 yards from a South Texas polling place that doubles as a police and fire station.

San Juan police Chief Juan Gonzalez declined to identify the 55-year-old man who was wounded until his family could be notified. The injury was not life threatening and Gonzalez said he expected the man to be released later Tuesday.

Gonzalez said no suspects had been notified, and it wasn't clear if the shooter had targeted a specific campaign or candidate.

Witness Ramiro Trevino says he didn't hear the shot as he stood on a street corner packed with workers and signs during primary day in Texas. Trevino says the man was working for a different candidate.
