The Wayans Family is much like that other infamous family – once you’re in, you’ll never get out. In the case of the Wayans clan, though, that’s a good thing. Keenen Ivory Wayans, the head of the large and growing Wayans clan says that not only is he personally returning to standup, but that the entire group is gearing up for 2014.

“I started as a standup and I’ve done it continuously over the years, but I haven’t been out on the road for a while,” he told the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The creator of TV’s iconic sketch show “In Living Color” which started not just the Wayans family careers but that of Jennifer Lopez (who was a Fly Girl dancer) Jim Carrey, David Alan Grier and Jamie Foxx, has also been the guiding force behind family projects like “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Gin and Juice in the Hood,” the “Scary Movie” franchise, “Dance Movie,” “White Chicks” and more.

Wayans says that he and his brothers are heading out on a tour next year that may include Damon, Sean, Marlon and Damon, Jr. so he’s testing out material now, heading to Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend and to Baltimore in two weeks. As far as inspiration for his standup,Wayans says that’s the easy part.

“I’ve been married, divorced, got five kids – there’s plenty to talk about.” (He’s also in an interracial relationship with “The Game” star Brittany Daniel, who played Kelly.)

Wayans says that while the family has a slate of projects cooking for 2014, one of them won’t be the long-anticipated “In Living Color” reboot.

“The truth is, that I just felt like trying to find people to replace folks like Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx and Damon Wayans was really going to be an uphill climb. If I wasn’t calling it “In Living Color”, that would be another thing. But “In Living Color sets an expectation that if you can’t reach it, you kind of leave it alone. So I decided that just to let it go. But I did miss it, though.”

(Sadly, this means that Wayans preferred casting of Jim Carrey  to play the embattled Paula Deen won’t happen anytime soon.)

But of course, the Wayans will stay busy, regardless.

“We’ve got tours, we’ve got a couple of animation projects going on, we’ve got a sequel to a fan favorite – I don’t want to give it away yet. As soon as I nail that down, I”m going to holla at you and let you know. That’s going to be a big announcement. We’re getting ready for 2014 right now.”
