The 42-year-old Mary J. Blige is crediting Whitney Houston’s death as one of the reasons why she quit drinking alcohol.
The self-proclaimed born again Christian says Houston’s death was a wake up call for her and it made her realize that she needed to seek “spiritual help” for her binge drinking.
Blige told Los Angeles Confidential Magazine, “Whitney Houston’s death really affected me. Her death is another reason I stopped. I really do think I’m done. I looked at how that woman could not perform anymore.”
Blige struggled with alcohol addiction for over a decade.

good job mary whatever it takes you never quit,, just keep up the work mary because in the end
it will pay off, not just for you,, but your family, and husband, and family to come,, it can be hard
at times, with pressure and media, and trying to stay on top, but the thing we have to understand
is addiction, it is a b***tch, please keep trying mary, we don’t want to see another funeral of someone
who was not suppose to go so soon,,, GOD BLESS YOU AND STAY PRAYED UP MARY,,,
Good for Mary. DIdn’t she say Aaliyah’s death helped her to stop drinking? Or was that stop using drugs? I forget. I know she said her death was a wake up call also. I hope Mary can keep it together. I love her!!
